Let’s Talk Hair | My Updated Everyday Summer Hair Routine

It’s been SO long since I’ve done a roundup of my everyday hair products and routine — and with my new shorter locks I thought now would be the perfect time to share my updated routine… which, side-note, who knew short hair was MORE work than long hair? I have to wash my hair twice as much these, but with this southern summer humidity that’s probably for the best.

Let’s start with the basics:

I like to start with a good everyday shampoo that cleans but doesn’t strip away all the good stuff or leave a greasy residue. I’ve tried EVERYTHING and these are my two favorites:

Every other week (or once a week depending on how much I was in the sun/chlorine) I like to do a deeper cleanse/condition with these:

Purple shampoo and conditioner is KEY for maintaining blonde hair and these are my favorite ones out of ALL the ones I’ve tried!

If you’re looking to splurge (and it’s totally worth every penny) this one is the holy grail of purple products:

And this drugstore purple shampoo and conditioner is a great find if you’re on a budget!

I have also recently discovered this silver shampoo and conditioner and I am COMPLETELY obsessed! It smells amazing and makes my hair feel so soft after I use it.

This microfiber towel cuts down my drying time AND combats frizz… a double win during the summer months especially.

Before drying I like to use heat protectors and do a little bit of volume-boosting. I am always rotating these products pre-blowout.

I ALWAYS use a texturizing product before styling my hair but depending on what look I’m going for I switch up with type of product I use. For hair mousse these have been my go-to’s for years:

For texturizing sprays I LOVE these — they are also great for a little volume if I’m styling day old hair.

This volumizing powder is a complete game-changer and acts as a mild-dry shampoo in between washes.

Yes, I still use hairspray. It’s 100 degrees here, I have no option! Out of the HUNDREDS of hairspray, I have tried these are my absolute favorites.

Dry shampoo is a basic life necessity for me and I have so many favorites, from high end to drug store brands I like to consider myself a connoisseur of dry shampoo. Here are my favorites:

For dry shampoo’s you can pick up at the drugstore but still rival that of boutique haircare brands here are a handful of ones I always grab:

8Tools are key when curling and these are the curling products I use most frequently to get my loose waves:

Do NOT skip out on a heat styling spray, especially if you have dry or colored hair! Trust me on this one.

If my hair is looking a little dull or yellowish this toning spray is pure magic:

Brushes and tools are not to be overlooked… not all brushes are created equal! These are tried and true staples that I always revert back to!

This All-In-Wonder Tinted Illuminating Primer is my new go-to. It is the perfect base for my makeup routine and gives me the most even glow! At only $7.32 I don’t know how you could ever complete with this wonder product!

For a little highlighter, the Pro-Glow Superstrobing Drops ($8.65) gives me the perfect, buildable shimmer. You can mix with foundation or use for contouring! I love the subtle and buildable glow I get with this product. It’s a fool-proof way to contour with a highlight!  You. cannot mess this application up,  which is a huge bonus in my book!  Anywhere you put it you get just the right amount of glowy, dewy skin!

And these Superactive Capsules Pure Double Vitamin C & Vitamin E Serum ($12.30) give me a true burst of glowing skin. It’s a double shot of Vitamin C and Vitamin E serum that helps even out skin tone and even fights wrinkles! You just twist open the capsule and apply the. serum directly to clean skin, I love that I feel like I’m getting the perfect application amount and. a totally fresh application everytime I use!

I also have to shout out the Quantum Bronzer Matte! It gives such a natural bronze and I love the consistency. of. the product. The pigmentation has such high-quality that you don’t need to use a ton of product and it doesn’t ever look caked on! This may be a new daily makeup staple for me, that’s how good it is!

Sunless Tanning Must-Haves

It’s that time of the year where we have a fake a tan in a hurry! I, personally, am a huge fan of sunless tanning and I’ve found a few tips and tricks along the way during my quest for the perfect at-home tan! I’ve also found a few products that have been total game changers!

First (and most importantly) you need to prep your skin! Make sure your skin is hydrated, shaved, and exfoliated for the best and most even application!

If you haven’t tried the Billie razor and shaving collection, do yourself a favor and grab the starter kit now! It truly is a shaving game-changer and I have really enjoyed their whole product line.

I grabbed this exfoliating silicone loofah on a whim after seeing it on Instagram and I am SO glad I did. I love how it makes my skin feel super soft and it’s like a mini-massager. I love to use it with this Pre-Tan Exfoliator to even out my skin before I get to the main event!

You guys know that the St. Tropez tanner is my absolute go-to for sunless tanning. It looks natural, stays on longer than anything else I’ve tried, and once you get the hang out it, it’s pretty easy to apply! My biggest tip is to buff the product into your skin in a circular motion and try to use the same amount pressure all over the leg.

This is by far my favorite self-tanning mitt and makes application so much easier!

For my face I love these tanning drops mixed with my favorite oil. It’s a great way to build a gradual tan and leaves my skin looking naturally bronzed! This truly is the most natural looking face tanner I have ever tried, just make sure you don’t shower for a few hours after applying.

What I Bought (and loved) from the Sephora Sale

I have really stepped up my makeup game during quarantine and the Sephora sale a few weeks ago was the perfect time to try out some new brands and products. And you guys… I found some GOOD stuff! What I love about Sephora is that they have such a great community review system and you’re able to see how people with your skin concerns react to certain products. This is perfect for higher ticket items you are on the fence about!

After a lot of browsing and review researching I picked up these gems and I am in LOVE! I know I’ve talked about Drunk Elephant before but they are one of those brands that are truly worth every penny. A little goes a long way and you really get the most out of your money because you are able to use the product for such a long time! 

The B-Hydra Intensive Serum is perfect to apply in the morning as a lightweight moisturizer, it doesn’t flake if I apply makeup after and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy. My skin feels AMAZING after I apply the Virgin Marula Oil, I use this one at night, it is super hydrating and I feel like a million bucks every time I put it on. I’ve just recently started to add retinol into my skincare routine and this Drunk Elephant Retinol cream is the perfect anti-aging product, I use this one twice a week!

If you’re looking to up your lash game this mascara should do the trick. I had heard so many great things by so many of you that I had to try it out… and I may never try another brand ever again. It gives the perfect lift without being clumpy or flaking off! I am in love.

I also have to shout out this fun summer eyeshadow palette. It’s not one I would use as a staple in my routine but I love it for summer! The perfect light and shimmery shades.

And this liquid blush from Nars is the perfect shimmery summer color. I got it in Orgasm (their cult-favorite shade) and I am obsessed with the dewy glow the liquid form is!

I have officially found the perfect lipstick shades for summer! Margaret Candleflame and Kimberley Rose are the only two colors you need this season. I am obsessed and this lipstick, it is creamy without being sticky and the pigmentation is perfection. I cannot recommend it enough. With all the five star reviews I had to give it a try and I do not regret it AT ALL!

Keeping Your Skin Safe with Australian Gold

Whether you’re taking a walk around the block, sitting on your front porch drinking your morning coffee, getting ready for a day out on the boat, or preparing for any outing… sunscreen should always be the first step in your beauty routine. Even during the age of social-distancing when your “normal” summer activities might be on pause, suncreen should still be step #1!

During the summer months, my family spends nearly all of our time on the beach or lake and I feel like there is a common misconception that sunscreen is only essential when it’s bright and sunny out… but, in reality, SPF is a must for every single day. Not only to prevent skin cancer and exposure to harmful UV rays but also to protect the youthful tone and appearance of your skin. This summer might be a little different but you can be sure I will be protecting my family’s skin even if we are just lounging in our backyard!

Keeping youthful-looking skin free of dark spots is a huge priority for me, and protecting Bo at an early age from sun damage is so important. It’s a great habit to get the kids into so they will be proactive about sun protection from the start. I love using spray sunscreen on Bo because, as you parents out there probably know, it’s often tricky to get a toddler to stand still for lotion applications. I love how evenly all of their sprays mist!

When I’m actively in the sun (or even simply planting some flowers in the yard) I love using an SPF with bronzer to give me a glow while I’m tanning… and this one from Australian Gold is perfect for getting a great tan while still protecting your skin. It keeps my skin super hydrated and smells like vanilla. I use SPF 15 but if you’re looking for a little more protection it also comes in SPF 30 in spray and lotion form! (If we are doing back to back boat/beach days I will up my SPF from 15 to 30!) It gives you that perfect golden glow without looking streaky or orange and lasts all day!
